Major County Historical Society was chartered May 3rd, 1968. On April 18th, 1985 Augusta Specht gave the Major County Historical Society 160 acres of farm land and enough money to build a building for a museum. The next building on the complex was the Blue Front Hotel. Through the years the Fairview train depot was moved on the grounds. Then later on, the Wohlgemuth house, which sets where a farm house once sat. Since then, we have gained two churches from Ames, Okla., a sawmill was put in, and the blacksmith shop and a one room schoolhouse have been added. Sometime later the Veterans Memorial, with flag poles, and the pavilion & bathhouse have been built. We now have the Two Cylinder building that houses threshing machines, wagons, a corn picker, and Sheller. Several years later the Ag building was built, which houses farm machinery dating from 1900's through 1950's. Next came the "Made in Major County" Bldg., that houses exibits that were made in Major County for resale. In 2008, the "2522" Locomotive was set on rails by the depot, then later, the caboose behind it. We now have a 40' X 100' building lying on the ground, waiting on estimates for construction. This will be used as a maintenance and storage building. Plans are also in the works for a large engine display building.

We also have our Oklahoma Centennial Park where Sixty-four characters depict several scenes from pioneer life on the prairie.
